AMBERLYNN ORR
“I am a very goal-driven person. I even put my goals in writing and create a plan of who, what, when, where, and how I will achieve them. As a fighter, I know my goal. I do not know the when or where just yet but I know what I have to do and how I have to do it to get there.”

5 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT AMBERLYNN ORR
WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY OF TRAINING LIKE?
Off season, when I am not training for a specific fight or competition, I like to start my day off with a run or a bike ride. I follow up with some cardio and light weights. I really enjoy getting my heart rate up using some of the old school video tapes because the workouts are killer. Then afterwards, I go run some errands then end the night with jits and MMA. During fight camp everything is a lot more intense and structured, more drawn out, and am more in a routine with specific things for specific days. I still do 2 a days but sometimes push to 3 a days and hit it a lot harder.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU AS A FIGHTER
I had my first fight and didn’t know what in the world I was doing but had people who believed in me. In the beginning, I guess I was driven to make those people proud, and of course, I still want to do that but…. now days, I guess I am more motivated by the perfectionist in me. I want to grow as a martial artist and be the best I can be. I used to not know why I fought, I just did. But now, I know I truly want to be THE BEST and I strive for it every day. Sometimes my biggest weakness in the gym is the fact that I try to be a perfectionist but I’m a constant work in progress and I’m nowhere near finished.
WHAT GOT YOU INTO MARTIAL ARTS?
When I got into MMA I did it for fitness. I was managing a gym and a fellow coworker was telling me about an MMA gym he went to. He convinced me to try it to get a different kind of workout and I was hooked. I didn’t grown up wanting to be a fighter and even when I started MMA, I really didn’t know about the fighting aspect. I was drawn in by the constant evolution of the workouts and fighters around me.
IF YOU COULD MEET ANYONE, LIVING OR DEAD, WHO WOULD YOU MEET AND WHY?
I would love to meet my mother’s father, my Grandfather, B.C. Howe, who passed away when my mother was 17. He was a Memphis police officer and had auburn colored hair like me. From what I hear, I am a lot like him in many ways. My grandmother always tells me he would have been so proud of me. I even have one of his vintage, circa 60’s, winter police jackets, given to me by his sister, and I wear every winter in his memory.
IF YOU COULD BE ANY FICTIONAL CHARACTER, WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
If I could be any fictional character I suppose I would want to be Athena, the Greek mythology Goddess of War, Wisdom, and Arts and Crafts. She was the daughter of Zeus and she invented a lot of things. She was also known as the protector of civilized life but she was compassionate and merciful. She was nearly invincible and would kick butt but she preferred peaceful resolutions. She just kind of fits my personality.
