“I am Hawaiian and that’s what our people are, fighters. It’s the only thing that’s ever made sense and came naturally to me. I will live and die a fighter.”

HERE’S SOME THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT RAQUEL PA’ALUHI
WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY OF TRAINING LIKE?
On my odd days I do strength and conditioning at 7 AM, pro team practices at 10 AM and in the evening I do BJJ and/or some running. On my even days I have sparring or striking at noon and I do BJJ and/or running at night. Typically I do 2-3 sessions a day depending on the day.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU AS A FIGHTER?
I’m very self motivated. A lot of what I do is strictly because I want to be better. I don’t want to die without making my mark in this world. I wanna be able to leave behind a legacy I’m proud of. But with that said, a lot of my motivation comes from my community back in Hawai’i. I want to put us on the map and give them something to be proud of. I want them to see me and know they can do whatever they want to. The more I do, the more they believe in me and that makes me believe in myself.
WHAT PROFESSION OTHER THAN YOUR OWN WOULD YOU LIKE TO ATTEMPT AND WHY?
I really wanted to be a writer or journalist and I see that in my future after fighting still. I always excelled in writing and was actually going to school for it. I would love to do commentating or sports broadcasting at the end of my career.
IF YOU COULD MEET ANYONE LIVING OR DEAD, WHO WOULD YOU MEET AND WHY?
I would love to meet Bruce Lee and Vince Lombardi. Their mind sets are second to none and I would love to know what they did every day to become so mentally strong and at peace.
IF YOU COULD BE ANY FICTIONAL CHARACTER, WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
I’d be Phoenix because she smart, strong, fast, durable and can fight! She’s a lot of things I strive to be. She’s also gorgeous!
